Celebrities and their private number plates

The more popular the combination is, the more expensive it will be. In addition, a wanted combination is often not available, as of course, only one vehicle can have a particular registration at a particular time. Those with a lower number of figures cost more money as a limited number of combinations can be made from them. However, if a celebrity desires a combination, they pay ask for the current owner of the plate to be contacted and request to buy it from them for a considerable amount of money – so in some cases, the purchase of a private number plate could even be considered an investment. But really, most people and celebrities buy private number plates to signify their wealth and identify themselves on the street, as well as to make their vehicles truly unique.

In today’s celebrity culture, many fans want to know the private number plate of their idol’s car, and in some cases this can be found. Celebrities are often spotted by regular passers-by as well as paparazzi driving along in cars with private number plates. Particular fans may even search the roads of the area in which their favourite celebrity lives, in the hope of spotting them. For this reason, they may try to find out the private number plate of their idol’s vehicle, in order to identify it for certain.

The registration numbers of some celebrity vehicles are widely known. For instant, the popular television presenter Chris Tarrant, who famously presented to quiz show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ for a number of years, has the private number plate ‘CHU 8B’. The well-known young boxer Amir Khan sports the private number plate ‘BOX 111G’; the first three figures here of course represent his famous profession. Sir Alan Sugar famously has the number plate ‘AMS 1′. This highly personalised number registration, containing only four figures, shows how immensely rich Sir Alan Sugar is. Theo Paphitis, another successful businessman, has the private number plate ‘RYM 4N’. Kriss Akabusi, a famous all-round athlete and sprinter, has the number plate ‘M12 KDA’. The English actor Noah Huntley has the registration ‘B4 WCH’. Of course, it is never certain that these celebrities are still using these number plates – they may well have since obtained new number plates to go with new vehicles, which of course they have the funds to regularly buy.

Much to the disappointment of many crazed fans, many celebrities are ceasing the practice of sporting private number plates that can become easily well-known to the public. This is because fans, along with teams of paparazzi, spot their vehicles and inevitable begin to follow them along the roads, often hindering their journeys. This is only annoying for the celebrities, but it is unsafe for those on the road. Those celebrities that attempt to maintain a private life are likely to drive a vehicle without a private number plate, in order to reduce the amount of publicity and public attention they receive.

''A Preservative against Popery'' (1738): The use of late seventeenth century polemical works to discourage conversions from the Church of England.

”A Preservative against Popery” (1738): The use of late seventeenth century polemical works to discourage conversions from the Church of England.

$49.99

This dissertation examines the collection A Preservative against Popery to show how Anglicans were writing against Catholics in the late seventeenth century and to determine why the works were republished together in 1738. When King James II of England (1685-88) suspended the penal laws against Catholics, the Anglican clergy feared that the Church of England would loose its position as the lawfully established church and that the freedom of Catholic missionaries to proselytize would persuade Anglicans to leave their church, thus endangering their salvation. The Preservative offers a glimpse of the thorough written debate that ensued between Anglicans and Catholics, touching on every doctrine and practice of the Catholic Church. Of particular concern were the issues of infallibility, idolatry, and the continuation of the true universal and apostolic church.;Scholars have recently argued that in the first half of the eighteenth century, the Catholic Church in England was not losing members as previously believed but was steadily growing. This dissertation continues this line of reasoning, arguing that A Preservative against Popery was a response by the Anglican Bishop of London Edmund Gibson to the increasing number of Catholic converts. It was thought that the conversions could be halted by familiarizing the eighteenth-century clergy with works that had argued decisively against the Catholic Church fifty years earlier. The Preservative did not provoke an open debate as the works it contains had done in the late seventeenth century, but it did attempt to define what it meant to be an Anglican in the eighteenth century. The collection was meant to remove any confusion about the church to which all who lived in England should belong.;While the works in the Preservative where written and republished in a polemical climate, they show that Anglicans and Catholics were attempting to understand each other even as they argued against each other. It is my hope that this

''A mighty fortress'' far from Lake Wobegon: The music of Minnesota's newest Lutherans.

”A mighty fortress” far from Lake Wobegon: The music of Minnesota’s newest Lutherans.

$49.99

While participation in religion is most often perceived to be a conscious choice made without direct connections to race or ethnicity on the part of an individual, it is also apparent that religion never functions outside of both its ethno-cultural context and its ethno-cultural history, and for a large proportion of Lutheran history, this context has been overwhelmingly European and European-American. However, Christianity has become increasingly global within the last century: Latin Americans, Africans, and Asians breathe new life into a once-European and North American theological tradition. Minnesota, considered the most significant hub of Lutheranism, has concurrently become more global. From 1990–2000, the number of foreign-born residents increased by 130 percent.1 Moreover, the way people migrate has changed considerably. While European immigration in the 1900s was long, hard, and permanent, advances in travel and communication technology have made migration a more fluid journey allowing for increased communication between old world(s) and new. This situation raises a number of questions regarding depictions of Minnesota as a haven for Scandinavian, homogeneous, and inflexible Lutherans.;Worship music presents a salient religious medium capable of enabling a vivid redefinition of Minnesotan Lutheranism. How do Cambodians, who have no musical ensemble that remotely resembles a choir in their homeland, create Lutheran worship music in the Twin Cities? Why have Sudanese Lutherans, whose main source of musical inspiration is the reception of songs in dreams, stopped receiving songs in their dreams upon their arrival in the US? As a church’s most audible display of faith and most contested realm of worship, the negotiations involved in the creation of Lutheran worship music illuminate the issues at the heart of the Lutheran church today.;1Bruce Katz, “Census 2000: Key Trends and Implications for Cities,” Brookings Institution, Center for Urban and Metropolitan
